Eat : Wei Fang Bao Zi (味坊包子) @ Mount Erskine, Penang

Hi Foodie Yo!

Today bringing you all to Wei Fang Bao Zi (味坊包子) @ Mount Erskine, Penang. It is a Chinese restaurant famous for their soup-filling-bun or we usually call them tang bao (汤包)and dumpling (饺子).

The menu is not very wide. Limited selection from only tangbao, dumpling and noodle.

The Menu

Some brief description about their bun
Following will be the review of what we have ordered.

 1. Tea
The tea was ordinary. It was not served hot but I am ok with that. Probably because it is a free-flow self service.
Free-flow Tea (RM1.50)

 2. 炸酱面(Zha Jiang Mian, Minced Meat Noodle)
The noodle was well-cooked. I like how the noodle has the al dante consistency. Together with the noodle they have the soy paste minced meat, fine peanuts and shredded cucumber. In a mouthful, you can taste the rich-flavoured minced meat with some crunchiness from the cucumber and peanut. It is also my first time having noodle with peanut, tho. Other than the base was a bit oily to my liking, it taste quite good.
炸酱面 (RM7.00)

Every mouthful you get this!

3. 水饺 (Shui Jiao, Dumpling)
This is what they are famous for, their chinese dumpling. A plate comes in 5 dumplings. 5 fillings for your selection (Pork, Pork Sauerkraut, Pork Leek, Pork Celery, Pork Cabbage). If you cannot make up your mind on which you want to get, get all 5! The owner actually recommended to get all 5 fillings in a plate. Get to taste all fillings at one go.

Even though the food presentation doesn't look good, but do not judge a book by its cover! The fillings are well cooked and they are able to preserved the juices of the meat in the dumpling. The skin is a bit thick too my liking but overall, I still like them.
Dumpling - Pork (RM1.00/piece)

Dumpling - Pork Leek (RM1.00/piece)

4. 生煎包 (Sheng Jian Bao, Pan-Fry Pork Soup Bun)
Another recommended dish. I love the crispiness of the skin and the juicy pork inside. Becareful, it is hot-from-the-stove. It might feel warm outside but it's burning inside. It comes in 5 piece for each plate.

生煎包 (RM8 per plate)

This is the juice from the bun.

add some chilly for some hot kicks

I love them with vinegar!

 5. 蒙古奶茶 (Mongolian Milk Tea)
If you wanted to try something different, try this! It is called the mongolian milk tea. It smells a bit like fresh milk (the one that you can get from indian stall, not the commercialized one from the supermarket). Tastes a bit salty, and grainy. Not sure if it contains grain.
Mongolian Milk Tea (RM2.50)

It always feels great to have tea after a meal. The owner was sweet enough to offer tea pot as we were walking back and forth to top-up the tea. *haha* Well at least it sooth the tummy after so much meat.
