Eat : Wan Thai Langkawi Restaurant @ Kuah, Langkawi

Hi Foodie Yo!

Today, I would like to share with you all my lunch experience in Wan Thai Langkawi Restaurant @ Kuah, Langkawi. It is a Thai-Malay Restaurant located in Kuah, one of the busiest town in Langkawi.

The Menu

These are what we have ordered!

1. Tomyam Ta-Lay (Tomyam Seafood) - RM25.00 (Medium)

The soup is as spicy and sour as I want it to be. I like how the soup has that 'kick'. It was supposed to be a 'seafood' tomyam but the waitress informed us that they only have prawn. There were only 6-8 piece of average -size prawn, very few piece of mushroom and tomato. Another thing about the dish is that the pot does not come with heater or fire below the soup. The soup was good at first when it is hot and spicy. However, over the lunch, your soup become cold.

2. Phad Phak Ruam Mid (Fried Mixed Vegetable) - RM20.00 (Medium)

Selection of combined vegetables makes the dish looks beautiful! It consists of carrot, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. There is also a decent amount of Vegetables have mild taste and you can still feel the crunchiness of the broccoli and cauliflower. Not over-cooked. I hardly feel thirsty after the meal, so I assume that not much/ no MSG was added.

3. Khai Cheaw (Omelette) - RM9.00 (Large)

I love this! Fluffy Omelette with some mushrooms and onions. Whisked egg deep fry under hot wok. The more I eat the more I crave. Every spoonful you can really taste the fragrant of the egg 💗. It will be great if it is less salty. A bit over-salty to my liking but still taste good.

4. Plameak Shup Pang Tod (Deep Fried Squid in Batter) - RM28.00 (Medium)

The texture of the fried squid is not up to my expectation. I thought it would be chewy as I would like my squid to be. However, the squid here is hard to chew and to swallow. A bit disappointed with this dish😖😖. Good thing is that the portion is big enough for 5. It will be perfect if it taste at least better.

5. Hor-Muk-Mar Pao Onn (Steam Seafood in Coconut with Cream and Curry, Otak-otak) - RM35.00

Ordered this as many review recommended this. Not sure if I ordered the wrong one but this is another disappointment. As first, the waitress told us that they do not have coconut today, so we are ok with aluminium. Secondly, this dish was served pretty late. We have finish out meal before this was served. Taste ok, but RM35 for this small portion is not worthy. Unless they have the coconut (which makes the otak-otak more fragrant), otherwise, don't bother ordering this.

Summary
I like it how they put some effort in presenting plain rice, serving water with light pandan fragrant, and fancy plate presentation.
Plain Rice
Overall bill sums up to only RM124, which I found moderately cheap. There were more goodness having lunch here comparing to the down-side.

Eat : Janxden Greenlife (简单绿意) @ Georgetown, Penang

Hi Foodie Yo!

Today, I will be sharing with you all on my lunch experience in Janxden Greenlife (简单绿意) @ Georgetown, Penang. It is a vegetarian cafe where you can find from Chinese-style cooking to Italian Pasta and Pizza. Their menu is quite a variety consisting noodles, porridge, rice, pizza and desserts.

The Menu

These are what we have ordered!

1. Creamy Cheese Baked Rice (奶油芝士焗饭)- RM16.90

Chunks of egg-plant, carrots can be seen!
A very creamy texture where each of every piece of rice is covered with the cream sauce. Other ingredients include mushrooms and eggplant that are chopped into cube size, just nice for a spoonful of goodness. Topped with baked cheese on top. Cheese or cream lovers, you will love this!

2. Pesto Pizza (九层塔比萨) - RM20.90
Goodness

Pizza with Pesto Paste Topped with Cherry Tomatoes, Egg-plant, Mushrooms

You can definitely smell the delightful pesto sauce from far. For those whom are not in favour of pesto, this is not recommended. I am attracted by the colour of the pizza in the menu actually. Green pesto base with ingredients like egg-plant, mushroom and cherry tomatoes, all are my favourite. How can I missed this?! I am quite upset that the amount of egg-plant presented was not as much as I have expected but generally it still taste good. Generous amount of cheese. Did I mention that I love cheese?

3. Applejito (念念不忘)- RM9.90

Mix fresh Fruit Juice where no artificial colouring is added. Applejito (念念不忘) is a combination of Apple + Mint Leave + Lemon. Quite refreshing drinking in the middle of the hot day. But I believe that the size have shrink? I remember drinking this in a tall glass but now...

Overall the lunch experience was good. Attentive staff and relaxing environment. Also, food is good.

Eat : Wei Fang Bao Zi (味坊包子) @ Mount Erskine, Penang

Hi Foodie Yo!

Today bringing you all to Wei Fang Bao Zi (味坊包子) @ Mount Erskine, Penang. It is a Chinese restaurant famous for their soup-filling-bun or we usually call them tang bao (汤包)and dumpling (饺子).

The menu is not very wide. Limited selection from only tangbao, dumpling and noodle.

The Menu

Some brief description about their bun
Following will be the review of what we have ordered.

 1. Tea
The tea was ordinary. It was not served hot but I am ok with that. Probably because it is a free-flow self service.
Free-flow Tea (RM1.50)

 2. 炸酱面(Zha Jiang Mian, Minced Meat Noodle)
The noodle was well-cooked. I like how the noodle has the al dante consistency. Together with the noodle they have the soy paste minced meat, fine peanuts and shredded cucumber. In a mouthful, you can taste the rich-flavoured minced meat with some crunchiness from the cucumber and peanut. It is also my first time having noodle with peanut, tho. Other than the base was a bit oily to my liking, it taste quite good.
炸酱面 (RM7.00)

Every mouthful you get this!

3. 水饺 (Shui Jiao, Dumpling)
This is what they are famous for, their chinese dumpling. A plate comes in 5 dumplings. 5 fillings for your selection (Pork, Pork Sauerkraut, Pork Leek, Pork Celery, Pork Cabbage). If you cannot make up your mind on which you want to get, get all 5! The owner actually recommended to get all 5 fillings in a plate. Get to taste all fillings at one go.

Even though the food presentation doesn't look good, but do not judge a book by its cover! The fillings are well cooked and they are able to preserved the juices of the meat in the dumpling. The skin is a bit thick too my liking but overall, I still like them.
Dumpling - Pork (RM1.00/piece)

Dumpling - Pork Leek (RM1.00/piece)

4. 生煎包 (Sheng Jian Bao, Pan-Fry Pork Soup Bun)
Another recommended dish. I love the crispiness of the skin and the juicy pork inside. Becareful, it is hot-from-the-stove. It might feel warm outside but it's burning inside. It comes in 5 piece for each plate.

生煎包 (RM8 per plate)

This is the juice from the bun.

add some chilly for some hot kicks

I love them with vinegar!

 5. 蒙古奶茶 (Mongolian Milk Tea)
If you wanted to try something different, try this! It is called the mongolian milk tea. It smells a bit like fresh milk (the one that you can get from indian stall, not the commercialized one from the supermarket). Tastes a bit salty, and grainy. Not sure if it contains grain.
Mongolian Milk Tea (RM2.50)

It always feels great to have tea after a meal. The owner was sweet enough to offer tea pot as we were walking back and forth to top-up the tea. *haha* Well at least it sooth the tummy after so much meat.
